Delhi Dynamos’ home campaign in the Hero Indian Super League Season 4 got off to a stuttering start as they were beaten 2-0 by NorthEast United. Goals from Marcinho and Danilo propelled the away side to their first win of the campaign, while the Lions suffered their second defeat in a row.

Head Coach Miguel Angel Portugal made three changes to the side that faced off against Bengaluru FC as Lallianzuala Chhangte, Sena Ralte and Matias Mirabaje were not included in the playing XI. Defender Munmun made his first appearance of the season, while Seityasen Singh and Jeroen Lumu got their first starts of the campaign. NorthEast United meanwhile included midfielder Rowlin Borges in the starting line-up.

The Dynamos got off to a slow start and were put into some early pressure by the away side’s high pressing. Despite having more possession in the early exchanges, the visitors failed to test goalkeeper Albino Gomes.

The big break though came in the 17th minute, when Halicharan Narzary dribbled his way down the left flank and delivered a cross to Marcinho, who found the back of the net to score NorthEast’s first goal of the season.

The Highlanders doubled their advantage minutes later, as striker Danilo pounced on a mistake from Albino to double the advantage and give the visitors a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Head Coach Miguel Angel Portugal’s side came out stronger in the second half and controlled the game in a much better fashion. Dutch winger Lumu was in the thick of things going forward and had the best chance for the Lions but his effort from close range was saved by TP Rehenesh. Forward Kalu Uche too came, but Rehenesh denied the Nigerian forward from point blank range.

Guyon Fernandez threatened from the left flank and made some darting runs into the box but he lacked the finishing touch.

Substitute David Nghaite had arguably the best chance of the game at the hour mark, when Chhangte released the striker clear through on goal, but the 28-year old failed to find the back of the net.

Despite the constant pressure, the away side managed to hold their fort and ensured that the hosts don’t find a way back, to record their first win of the campaign.
