Delhi Dynamos F.C. will be hoping to turn their fortunes around after a dismal start to the season, when they face Chennaiyin F.C on Sunday. The hosts currently lie second in the table, and anything other than a defeat could see them rise to the top of the standings. For the Lions the game is of much importance as they find themselves stuck in the bottom of the standings, desperate to turn things around.
There’s good news for the Lions who come into this game having completed the signings of goalkeeper Xabi Irureta and midfielder Shubham Sarangi. The side have no new injury concerns and will have all players except Albino Gomes, fit to play this match.
For Chennai though, there will be two notable absentees as Head Coach John Gregory and captain Henrique Sereno are both suspended for this tie.
“Chennaiyin FC are a good team and I have great respect for them but I have confidence in my side. There’s still chance for us to make it to the playoffs. We have prepared for the win and hopefully we can get 3 points,” Head Coach Miguel Angel Portugal said in the pre-match press conference.
The game will mark the return of former Chennaiyin defender Sena Ralte while young Nandha Kumar will play in his home town for the first time since leaving Chennai City FC for the ISL.
“Nandha is a young player who is fast and quick and makes good decisions. He is one for the future for Indian National Team. This project is for the future. I am trying best to improve these young players,” Portugal added.
Meanwhile, Chennaiyin assistant coach Sabir Pasha is hoping that his side don’t get complacent when they take on Dynamos.
“We can’t be complacent. We have to focus on each and every match. Ten matches more to go and it’s not going to be easy… we are really prepared, and I think other teams are also prepared. We have to keep doing what we have been doing and keep improving to match the other teams.”
